A SERIES of beautiful light installations reflecting Islamic heritage and dedicated to a pioneering community leader are now in place in Bradford. Created by the Muslim Women’s Council (MWC), in partnership with The Leap creative programme, the installation combines Arabic calligraphy and neon lighting to share Asma Ul Husna - the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah/God - with the people of Bradford. ‘An Nur’ – the light/the illuminator; ‘Al Wadood’ – the most loving and ‘As Salaam’ – the giver of peace, are the three names selected, designed and developed by a focus group of Muslim women from Bradford. The project team worked in collaboration with Arabic calligrapher Razwan Al-Haq and Neon Workshops to create the three stunning light installations in different styles of calligraphy, in the hope of spreading light, love and peace across the city.
THE DISTRICT is set to host its biggest ever celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month with more than 200 events despite the lockdown. With plays, poetry and panels or dance workshops and light shows, there are plenty of ways to get involved and come together to mark the special month.
What is LGBTQ+ History Month? An aim of LGBTQ+ History Month is to bring together people of all ages in order to learn from each other’s personal experiences. LGBTQ+ history month is held in February each year to celebrate and recognise the cultures, past and present, of LGBTQ+ people and others across the sexual orientation spectrum.
