Reseachers at Newcastle University, UK have identified three key areas of the nervous system which are underactive in people with post-Covid fatigue. Combined with the findings of previous University research into other chronic conditions with fatigue, the team are examining in a trial whether stimulating the vagus nerve with small electric currents to the skin around the ear can improve symptoms for patients with fatigue after having had Covid. This involves patients clipping a TENS machine, better known for pain relief, to their ear.
Patients in this study, who had overall significantly higher scores than controls, fell into 3 categories of psychological risk from temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) based on analysis with unsupervised machine learning.
