Water Issues Impact County As Winter Storm Recovery Continues The Hillsboro City Council met in an emergency session at noon Monday, February 22, and declared a water scarcity emergency in the city. Many other cities and water supply corporations were also dealing with their own supply issues throughout the county as the week began. The council ordered all laundry facilities and car washes to cease operations in the city through noon Wednesday, February 24. Other businesses and citizens were asked to voluntarily conserve as much water as possible. Last week’s winter storm caused over 10 major leaks in the city’s water distribution system and multiple leaks on private property. The city reported that this had caused the loss of millions of gallons of water over a period of 10 days.
