A mother and her three children safely escaped a house fire Tuesday, thanks largely in part to being alerted to the home’s smoke detectors. At approximately 4:11 p.m., the Greenville Department of Public Safety was dispatched to a structure fire at 500 E. Eureka St.

A scrap metal fire was extinguished without any injuries reported after about four hours Thursday once firefighters from seven departments came together with enough water to extinguish the large blaze. From a new youth baseball field, equipment for the township fire department and various road projects, Montcalm Township’s federal relief funding has officially been spent. During the April 12 meeting of the Montcalm Township Board, Supervisor Brian Blomstrom informed the audience that of the $358,142.34 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars the township received, all funds had now either been spent or allocated to be spent.
