The North Liberty City Council this week took the first step to allow utility task vehicles — or UTVs — to operate on city streets. The council needs to approve the ordinance two more times before driving these vehicles on city streets is legal.
Bermel, a real estate agent, will serve the term on North Liberty City Council through the end of 2023.
The North Liberty City Council voted at its last meeting to fill a council vacancy by special election instead of appointment. The vacancy was created when Chris Hoffman took office as mayor and resigned from his council seat.
Candidates must gather 19 signatures, and then fill out an affidavit of candidacy to get on the ballot. Both are due by Feb. 18.
