GRANTS PASS, Ore.– “It was a nightmare. It was terrible for me, what I went through because of that dock.” 81 year old grants pass woman Maria Carbajal never expected she’d have to fight for her life after doing basic yard work outside her home. “It was something that I’ve never experienced before.” But when her foot broke through an old board on her personal dock, she found herself holding on for dear life “I don’t want to drown out here, I don’t want to drown out here.” Luckily, Carbajal’s screams for help were heard by her 67 year old roommate Karen Kelier.

Though county commissioners can prohibit fireworks, the sheriff’s office is asking residents not to light them. “Klamath county, we don’t rush to ban things. We want to encourage folks to enjoy the fourth of July, and we want them to do that safely. We think that would be best served by saving their fireworks until new years eve.” Brandon Fowler, KCSO public information officer, says the sheriff’s office’s number one concern is public safety. A criminal citation can be issued for reckless burning if a firework causes a fire. A fine could reach as high as $100,000 for a small fire...

The decision came amidst the worst drought in recent history in southern Oregon. In a press release, the city says the mayor and council received numerous emails and phone calls requesting the council pass a resolution banning the use of fireworks inside city limits. MEDFORD, Ore.– After hearing an explosion just after 9 PM Sunday night, some east Medford residents came outside to find electrical equipment on fire. Pacific Power is now handling the aftermath of a power outage on one of the hottest nights of the year. At one point, more than 30,000 homes were without power in Medford, Talent, Phoenix, White City and even Shady Cove. All as a result of the explosion in East Medford.
