Resident voices concerns to council over new housing development; Mayor Brenk swears-in two new firefighters
Mayor Matt Brenk swore-in two new members of the Detroit Lakes Fire Department during a regular city council meeting at the Historic Holmes Theatre on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Members also heard concerns from a resident over a proposed affordable housing development, south of Big Floyd Lake, near County Road 131 and Highway 59. Also, Amy Stearns, executive director of the Historic Holmes Theatre, proposed a new city arts committee at Monday s Community Development Committee.

Detroit Lakes Park Board feeling left out of park dedication fees process

By March 25, the development group applied for a 46-lot subdivision of 37.34 acres with the city s planning commission. The new development will include 44 single, or twin, homes and two apartment buildings, which was recommended for approval to the community development committee pending the park board s approval of a cash payment in lieu of the set aside green space requirement. The Bristlin First Addition development will require a $22,000 park dedication fee, according to Shawn King, public works director for Detroit Lakes.
Park board members felt they should have had input in park fee discussion before the permit request was entertained by the city Planning Commission. ....
