Detroit Lakes Park Board feeling left out of park dedication fees process

watch live
By March 25, the development group applied for a 46-lot subdivision of 37.34 acres with the city's planning commission. The new development will include 44 single, or twin, homes and two apartment buildings, which was recommended for approval to the community development committee pending the park board's approval of a cash payment in lieu of the set aside green space requirement. The Bristlin First Addition development will require a $22,000 park dedication fee, according to Shawn King, public works director for Detroit Lakes.
Park board members felt they should have had input in park fee discussion before the permit request was entertained by the city Planning Commission.
