A young girl sadly passed away following a medical episode at Marriotts School in Stevenage yesterday

A Stevenage schoolgirl has sadly passed away following a medical episode yesterday afternoon.
Police were called by the ambulance service at around 1.45pm to advise they were attending a medical episode at Marriotts School in Brittain Way, Stevenage.
It was reported that a child had become unresponsive.
Officers attended to assist at the scene. Armed police attended due to their close proximity to the scene at the time of the call.
The girl was taken to hospital, but sadly died a short time later.

The girl's parents are being supported by police and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time.
It has also been asked that people do not speculate on social media.
In a statement, Herts Police said: 'We were called by the ambulance service at around 1.45pm today (Thursday 29 April) to advise they were attending a medical episode at Marriotts School in Brittain Way, Stevenage.
Hertfordshire Constabulary told the Sun she became unresponsive at around 1.45pm
'Enquiries are being carried out, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.'
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended a medical emergency at the Marriotts School in Stevenage just before 1.45pm yesterday.

Stevenage: Marriotts School under lockdown

Emergency services were called to a school in Stevenage, after a child was taken unwell this afternoon.
Pupils at Marriotts School in Brittain Way were initially kept away from the scene while emergency services attended.
UPDATE at 15:46: A spokesman for Marriotts School has confirmed that a student was taken unwell. The family of the child has been made aware.
Students have been sent home from school as normal.
UPDATE at 16:00: Herts Police said in response to a Facebook comment: "We can confirm that this was not a stabbing."
