“The PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz] has always provided patronage to occupiers of government lands,” the premier said. “No one can occupy government land without political patronage,” he added.

To avoid mark-up: AG Office wanted early payment to Broadsheet

ISLAMABAD: The Attorney General’s Office had been pressing the NAB since 2018 to expedite the reward payment to Broadsheet to avoid mark-up and other costs but the Bureau did not act on the advice, leading to a payment of US$29 million as against the original award of $21 million.
A credible source close to the former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor told The News that in official meetings on the subject, Mansoor had advised NAB to pay the reward amount soon after it was announced by the Arbitration Tribunal in 2018 to avoid mark-up and other costs.
However, the source said, NAB was of the view that if the option of appeal was not availed it would lead to audit objections. Mansoor, the source added, had warned that it was unlikely that NAB would get anything at the appeal stage so it was better to forget about the audit objection and save Pakistan from paying more because delay would further add to the costs.

Broadsheet judgment 'clean chit' for Sharifs: Hussain Nawaz

National
January 24, 2021
LONDON: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz has said Sir Anthony Evan’s judgment in the Broadsheet vs the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case is a “clean chit” for the Sharif family as the judgment clearly states that the Broadsheet hired the Matrix Research Limited to investigate assets of the Sharif family but found nothing.
In a statement, he said Matrix investigated Nawaz Sharif and eight members of his family for a year soon after the NAB signed a contract with the Broadsheet but in the end nothing illegal was found.
He said Sir Anthony’s judgment is a “clean chit” for the Sharif family. He challenged the government of Pakistan to show proof of corruption or illegality before the UK government or any other government anywhere.

Probing Broadsheet case: Parliament should draft ToRs for inquiry committee, says Malik

National
January 24, 2021
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Committee on Interior and senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party Senator Abdul Rehman Malik on Saturday suggested that the parliament should draft the Terms of Reference for the inquiry committee probing the Broadsheet case.
“An independent and transparent probe into Broadsheet case should be ensured so that responsibility could be fixed,” he said while talking with The News on Saturday. Chairman Senate Committee on Interior Rehman Malik said General (retd) Pervez Musharraf ruled the country for a decade and agreement with Broadsheet was signed during his tenure. “There was a specific timeline of it and when the sovereign state signed an agreement with someone then, foreign courts implemented it,” he said. He said Broadsheet will turn into a charge sheet, then into history sheet. He said the ToRs, which were being drafted to probe it then, should be sent to parliament, which should know about these.
