SKAMANIA CO. — On July 2, just east of Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Tunnel 5 in Skamania County, a blaze eventually designated as the Tunnel 5 Fire was ignited.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources found the blaze was started by debris from the brakes on a BNSF train, possibly due to the use of an older locomotive.
The Tunnel 5 Fire, which started on July 2 about 2 miles west of White Salmon, has destroyed at least one residence.
