Five years ago, the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) offered a Graduate Diploma in Radio which you could attend full and part time and only face to face. That diploma has shifted to include podcasting and now allows those who live regionally, perhaps have full time work, or young children, or limits around accessibility, the ability to still immerse themselves in radio, audio and sound production. People like Myoung Jae Yi.
We have had 50 years of failure in Aboriginal policies which has needed to be obscured behind 50 years of anthropological spin. The real barriers to the success -- embedded in Aboriginal culture itself -- have been hidden from sight in order to not upset indigenous sentiment. Only the sunlight of an unfettered royal commission has any chance of revealing both truth and remedies
Comparisons have been made to the marriage equality plebiscite: many knew someone gay, maybe wanting to be married, and so it was personal. But very few white Australians know an indigenous person as a friend. It’s not just numbers - people identifying as LGBTI has been estimated as high as 11%, but is usually accepted at a third of that – the same percentage as indigenous. There are so many other factors.
