3 Springfield principals resign in May, including Parkview's leader

The Springfield district recently launched a search for the next principal of Parkview, its third-largest high school.
The departure of Eric Ramsey — following 11 years at the helm — marks the complete turnover of all Springfield high school principals in a three-year period.
Ramsey's direct supervisor, Ron Woodard, sent a note to parents May 27, the final day of classes, noting the exit of the longtime principal.
"I wanted to let you know that the role of principal of Parkview High School will transition at the conclusion of the current school year and a new principal will be named for the 2021-2022 school year," Woodard wrote. "We thank Dr. Eric Ramsey for his service to Parkview over the past 11 years and wish him well with his plans for the future."

Kathy Looten, the Springfield Public Schools board secretary, is retiring this summer.
For nearly 15 years, Kathy Looten has been stationed right outside the office door of the Springfield superintendent.
The executive office liaison reported directly to Norm Ridder until he retired in mid-2014 and then to John Jungmann.
Looten has spent the past decade serving as secretary to the Board of Education for the state's largest district.
She will retire from both pivotal positions this summer.
"I've felt very fortunate to be in this role," said Looten, 65. "I tell people all the time, I am very lucky to have served in the community and been the board secretary and I believe public education is extremely important."

Marty Marsh retires from Springfield district, joins MSHSAA staff

Marty Marsh, who oversaw a major expansion of extracurricular offerings for Springfield middle school students, has been hired as assistant executive director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association, or MSHSAA.
Marsh, assistant director of athletics and student activities in Springfield, will retire from the district this summer. He will start the new job July 1.
"It has certainly been an honor to serve the students of Springfield Public Schools for 26 years. It's truly a highlight of my life," Marsh recently told the school board. "As I've said many times, I leave this job with mixed emotions."
Marsh was recognized at the board meeting Tuesday because he was recently named the Missouri Middle School Athletic Director of the Year by the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Springfield school board members Renner, Lee, Patterson say goodbye

In an emotional sendoff Tuesday, the Springfield school board bid farewell to three of its members — including one who served 27 years.
The exiting Gerry Lee, Jill Patterson and Bruce Renner reflected on their tenures, talked about their favorite parts of board service and offered parting advice for the governing board of the state's largest district.
They were lauded for giving their time. Renner joined the board in 1994 followed by Lee in 2006 and Patterson in 2015.

Renner, who spent 26 years as a teacher and counselor in the district, served the board during seven superintendents. He lost his first election and won the next seven. During his 27-year tenure, he attended 700 board meetings, served with 28 others, and 40,000 high school seniors graduated.

Election results 2021: Who won the SPS school board race

They will be sworn in next week.
Mohammadkhani, a retired physician, led the pack Tuesday night. She was backed by the Springfield National Education Association.
The vote totals were incredibly close at times, making the winners impossible to call until all precincts were counted.
Endorsement from the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce may have helped Crise and Kincaid, who were also supported by Springfield NEA.
"Thank you to all the Springfield voters for your confidence in me," Kincaid said. "I look forward to serving our community, students, educators and parents."
Crise, an engineer, is manager of technical services at Associated Electric Cooperative. Kincaid, an attorney, started the Elder Law Group with a partner.

The Springfield school board wants its elections to remain in April, despite a legislative proposal to move them to November.
The seven-member governing body supports allowing voters to approve bond issues by simple majority.
The panel opposes perennial legislating creating an avenue to recall board members but not other elected officials.
In a series of meetings, the board tweaked and added to a 2021 legislative platform that, in keeping with years past, champions local control.
