The Antelope larsonjt2@lopers.unk.edu Bruner Hall has been undergoing restoration work since a pipe burst due to cold weather in February, flooding labs and classrooms throughout all four floors. Two months later, the hall is reoccupied, but work is expected to continue for months to come. The restoration has been led by C-Tech Restoration with assistance from Yellow Van Cleaning and Restoration. In the first week, the restoration crew committed 1,000 hours of work to the project. Since then, restoration has been completed on a majority of the emergency repairs. “Most areas have been reoccupied,” said Michael Cremers, Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Planning. ....
Chick-fil-A runs out of fries, squirrels go nuts mcdonaldge@lopers.unk.edu Ever since classes started this spring, Chick-fil-A has periodically ran out of waffle fries, but no one is more disgruntled than the campus squirrels. The beloved animals are rebelling against UNK students and faculty until they can feast on the dropped fries of passersby. What has become known as “The Fury-Tailed Rebellion” started with a string of electrical problems across campus. “The teeth impressions say it all,” said Bill Loney, the Facilities director. “If you ask me, [the squirrels] were the reason for the rolling blackouts we had this winter. It baffles me how those suckers can gnaw through copper wire without getting electrocuted.” ....

Full restoration will take time even though March weather has been favorable to the process. Before any evaluation could be made the wet terrain had to be dealt with. Several biology and chemistry labs were canceled to allow thorough drying, which took nearly a week and a half to accomplish. “It is likely that the full scope to repair damages and replace equipment will not be known for several weeks,” said Michael Cremers, assistant director of facilities management and planning. ....
The University of Nebraska at Kearney expects its Bruner Hall of Science to be fully open and usable within a couple weeks; however, some restoration work may continue into the summer. The building on the southeast corner of campus sustained interior damage when cold temperatures caused a fourth-floor sprinkler line to break shortly before midnight [.] ....
