A lost dog found, just in time for the holidays

Cathy and Bryan Flannery had only had their new dog, Allie, for just over a week when she escaped their fully fenced yard by, in their words, “using a large vertical woodpile as a staircase.” The pair quickly sprang into action, searching the neighborhood, alerting Marin Humane and posting flyers everywhere. Allie, a 6-month-old Aussiedoodle, […]

Going Gonzo: U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez on Friday became the latest pro-impeachment House Republican to be raked over the coals by his state’s party. But as Jeremy Pelzer reports, the Ohio Republican Party not only voted to censure Gonzalez, but also passed an impromptu resolution calling for his resignation. Gonzalez didn’t respond Friday, though U.S. Sen. Rob Portman issued a statement supporting the Rocky River Republican.
Drug problem still rages: Ohio officials are sending 60,000 doses of naloxone nasal spray, which stops opioid overdoses, across the state, Laura Hancock reports. Last year at this time, overdose deaths increased in the spring and summer.

Not happening: Ohio Republican legislative leaders have abandoned a plan to ask voters to approve a constitutional amendment in August extending deadlines for Ohio’s new redistricting process. As Andrew Tobias reports, Senate President Matt Huffman, who floated the plan in light of delayed census data, had said he wouldn’t go forward without bipartisan support. Democratic leaders expressed concerns about a rushed process.

Mayoral poll: A new poll shows most Cleveland residents aren’t familiar with most of the candidates running in the Cleveland mayoral race, a message that they’ll have to increase their profile if they want to succeed Mayor Frank Jackson. Seth Richardson reports former Mayor Dennis Kucinich was the most well-known of any of the potential mayoral hopefuls in the poll conducted by Baldwin Wallace University. Former City Councilman Zack Reed followed Kucinich as the candidate second most familiar to Clevelanders, while City Councilman Basheer Jones, who has not declared but is expected to do so, was the only other candidate who was familiar to a majority of residents.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Thirteen Democratic candidates filed petitions by the Wednesday deadline to run in the 11th Congressional District race to replace former Rep. Marcia Fudge.
The packed field included many notable names whose campaigns are already active and excluded one who announced his candidacy but ultimately decided against running: former state Rep. Bryan Flannery. Two Republicans also filed for the primary in the district that is heavily gerrymandered to favor Democrats.

Nina Turner endorsed by Diddy in race for Ohio's 11th District

This isn't the first major endorsement that Turner has received, however.
In the past several months, the politician has been publicly endorsed by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Known for her left-leaning views, Turner has promised to be an advocate for progressive policies in Congress if she were to be elected.
"What we are hearing from the people of this district is they want a Congressperson who is going to go to Washington to be an effective voice for the needs of our community.  Our people deserve better wages, better and more affordable health care, and a nation that affirms the social dignity of every person," said Nina Turner of her interest in the open seat in Congress. "They want a Congressperson who will negotiate hard for them -- to be their champion -- and who has shown the ability to work with anyone who can help make life better for people. In the coming months, I look forward to meeting as many folks as we can safely do and I invite you to join us in this campaign for a better future for Northeast Ohio."
