Student charged in Menchville High School shooting testifies
Text messages introduced at a murder trial in Newport News Circuit Court this week show a group of students was mad at Demari Batten about an Instagram post he made, which they interpreted as mocking of their gang. Batten is charged with second-degree murder in the Dec. 14 shooting of Justice Dunham.

Judge stands by life sentence in Newport News sexual assault case
Sarah Anne Johnson, 39, pleaded guilty last year to six felony counts stemming from an October 2016 incident involving a then 13-year-old girl. A judge on Tuesday denied her bid to reduce the life sentence she received for the crimes.
