Public health experts say the number of west nile virus infections jumped more than 60% in the last week alone. now they re reaching for what they say is their most effective weapon in the battle against the mosquito-borne disease. that is aerial spraying. not everyone is happy with being showered by chemicals for obvious reasons. officials say if they don t spray the outbreak would spread we may end up with a larger number of human cases. the pain was immense. i mean i knew i was in trouble. so far this year, more than 1,100 cases of west nile virus have been reported nationwide. that includes 41 people who have died. a state of emergency has been declared in three california counties. burned up by forest fires. in the northern part of the state, the so-called ponderosa fire is still threatening hundreds of homes and destroyed 50 builds. half of it is contained. across the country, 7 million acres burned this year making it one of the worst fire seasons ever. tropical stor ....
