Poor decision : Woman caught drink driving weeks after disqualification

Premium Content Subscriber only A woman has been told she was a “tragedy waiting to happen” after she was caught drink driving just weeks after facing court for a similar offence. Shirley May Williams, 34, pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday to driving over the general alcohol limit without a licence, driving while disqualified by court and driving an unregistered vehicle. On March 28 police from Mount Morgan, near Rockhampton, were patrolling after being alerted to an unlicensed driver who was under the influence of alcohol. At 5pm that afternoon they pulled over a car on Porters Rd at Baree which was being driven by Williams.

Casey was hospitalised after the crash and was released on Monday where he was then taken into custody before making an application for bail on Tuesday.

Thousands of RBTs, many infringements issued at weekend

Bundaberg police have revealed 157 infringements were issued to drivers across the region over the Easter long weekend. Officer in charge of the Bundaberg Road Policing Unit Sergeant Marty Arnold said multiple disappointing incidents occurred on the region s roads this weekend, but overall the majority of drivers were well behaved. Two drivers (were) issued infringements for travelling 40km/h over the speed limit on a wet road (and there were) nine drink drivers - two of which were over five times the legal limit, he said. Across the Wide Bay Burnett 157 infringements were issued and 2845 random breath tests conducted. But with more than 150 infringements issued over the weekend, it s clear the important message continues to go unheard for some.
