North state educators are considering how best to respond after Dr. Seuss Enterprises made the decision to stop printing six of cartoonist Theodor Seuss Geisel’s famous children’s books. The books were pulled from printers after publishers received complaints some of their illustrations depict racial and ethnic stereotypes.
While they said controversy surrounding the books creates an excellent opportunity to talk about prejudice and discrimination, some educators want to pull the books while they train teachers how best to approach students and explain why the illustrations depicting Blacks, Native American and Asian caricatures hurt people.
