'CAA protests is a non-issue,' claims Assam BJP President Ranjeet Dass ahead of elections

‘CAA protests is a non-issue,’ claims Assam BJP President Ranjeet Dass ahead of elections
The Congress said it supported jailed activist Akhil Gogoi’s suggestion that all opposition parties should get together and nominate the worthiest candidate.
Bharatiya Janata Party Assam unit President Ranjeet Dass on Wednesday claimed that the massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the state would not make any political difference in the Assembly elections this year, and that his party would trounce the Congress-led alliance easily,
The Hindu reported.
The 126-member Assam Assembly will go to polls in three phases on March 27, April 1, and April 6. The results will be out on May 2.

One year later, the mosque is still being rebuilt. The window frames are still charred.

One year ago, on February 25, a mob made its way to Ashok Nagar, Galli (lane) Number 5, in the early afternoon, shouting the slogan, ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
The Muslim families in the area locked their doors.
The mob entered a mosque and, still shouting slogans, began to destroy the interiors, tearing up copies of the holy book, shattering glass windows, breaking the furniture.
After the insides of the mosque were destroyed, gas cylinders were tossed inside and the premises set ablaze. In the explosion that followed, a major part of the mosque was laid waste, with gaping holes in the sides of the building where the walls fell.

BJP Lacks Courage To Talk About Implementing CAA In Assam: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Taking a dig at Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that BJP leaders talk about implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in various parts of the country, but do not have the courage to mention it in Assam.
Assam had witnessed massive protests against the implementation of CAA in 2019 and five people had lost their lives to the violence that broke out.
The grand alliance of the Congress and six other parties will form the government in Assam after the election as people are fed up with the false promises made by the BJP, she said.

Delhi Riots One Year On: As Ashok Nagar Mosque Went Up in Flames, So Did Bonds Between Neighbours

Before February 25, 2020, Ashok Nagar had little history of communal hatred. Now, a year after the only four Muslim families in the area were attacked by armed mobs shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’, there is an atmosphere of wariness.

NEW DELHI: The right to protest and express dissent comes with certain duties and cannot be held "anytime and everywhere", the Supreme Court said in an order, dismissing a review petition on the anti-citizenship law protests held in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh in 2019.
Twelve activists had filed a review petition on the last year ruling of the Supreme Court terming the anti-citizenship law protests held at Shaheen Bagh to be illegal.
"The right to protest cannot be anytime and everywhere. There may be some spontaneous protests but in case of prolonged dissent or protest, there cannot be continued occupation of public place affecting rights of others," the three-judge bench of Justices SK Kaul, Aniruddha Bose and Krishna Murari said while dismissing the review petition. Though the review petition was decided on February 9, the order came late last night.
