LA's New Rooftop Stunner Opens Wednesday in Citizen Public Market

Stan Lee
There’s a new rooftop bar by some familiar LA names opening in Culver City’s Citizen Public Market this week. Bar Bohémien opens Wednesday right above the market’s hotspots Jolly Oyster, Mexicology, and Nancy Silverton’s Pizzette.
The adaptive reuse project opened in November, and Bar Bohémien’s space leaned into reinventing the historic 1929 space. The indoor sports an open, vaulted high-ceiling retro vibe with 1920s brickwork, arched window, and leather bar seats. Speaking of windows, they’re everywhere. In early evening hours, Bar Bohémien willcapture LA’s sunset light, as will the rooftop patio that overlooks Culver Boulevard. It’s a good size, clocking in at 2,400 square feet, though the indoor bar will have to remain closed under LA County’s coronavirus guidelines. For now, outdoor capacity is limited to 25 percent, with a 10 p.m. curfew. When these restrictions are lifted, Bar Bohémien will keep late-night hours.

One Bright Young LA Pizza Star Sets Up Shop Today on Pico Boulevard

Bootleg Pizza is now open on Pico Boulevard, adding its name to the already-growing pantheon of pan pizza options around greater Los Angeles. Owner Kyle Lambert started his operation long before the pandemic began, selling slices from a small commissary kitchen on Fairfax before turning things over to a (somewhat finicky) food truck. Now he’s got a storefront all his own.
Lambert and his team quietly opened the doors to Bootleg Pizza at 5504 W. Pico Boulevard over the weekend, dishing out slices to fans and followers inside a spiffy new red and white space. The small operation doesn’t have any indoor seating at the moment, but expect some counter availability once indoor dining is again allowed — likely in a post-coronavirus vaccine world. Otherwise the room is taken up by a brand new deck oven, ordering area, and Lambert himself personally handling the pies.

Surprise New Sushi Opens Today in Silver Lake's Former Ma'am Sir Space

Surprise New Sushi Opens Today in Silver Lake’s Former Ma’am Sir Space

A newcomer named Sunset Sushi opens today in Silver Lake, turning out chirashi boxes, rice bowls, rolls, and more. The restaurant takes over the former home of the beloved Ma’am Sir Filipino restaurant from chef Charles Olalia, which closed earlier this year as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
Sunset Sushi shares the same ownership as Highland Park’s new-ish Ichijiku, which also opened in the current coronavirus era. The principal names behind the endeavor, Wade McElroy and Russell Malixi, were partners with Olalia in Ma’am Sir, and have flipped the space to a more muted Japanese style, with plans for robust takeout and delivery. McElroy and Malixi also run prominent restaurants like Horse Thief BBQ at Grand Central Market in Downtown, and Cafe Birdie in Highland Park, among others.
