Email Submit An Old Lyme man charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of 19-year-old pedestrian Yeison Jayson Gomez Cruz in 2017 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended after 2½ years served, with three years of probation. Daniel J. Coffee, 38, was sentenced before Judge Hunchu Kwak in New London Superior Court on Dec. 14 after pleading no contest to evading responsibility for leaving the scene of the accident that took place on a stormy October night three years ago. Coffee, who had rejected an earlier plea offer and appeared to be headed for trial, in October accepted an offer from prosecutor Rafael Bustamante that called for the sentence of 10 years in prison, suspended after three years served, followed by three years of probation.
