Crews begin SR-86 roadway improvements

Crews closed sidewalks and lanes on State Route 86 at the intersection of Adams Avenue and North Imperial Avenue Monday to begin work on a 1.5-mile road improvement project that is expected to continue for the next two to three months.
The project will cover the section of SR-86/Adams Avenue, just west of Wilson Street, to SR-86/North Imperial Avenue at Treshill Road. Construction will include sidewalk repairs, intersection treatments and thermoplastic striping and markings. Completion is anticipated in mid-August.

Federal prosecutors in California filed charges against an alleged human smuggler they say is responsible for the deaths of 13 migrants. The 13 Mexican and Guatemalan migrants died in a crash after the driver crossed the SUV illegally into the United States through a breached border wall barrier.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California filed charges related to Conspiracy to Bring Aliens to the United States Outside a Port of Entry Causing Serious Bodily Injury/Placing a Life in Jeopardy against 47-year-old Jose Cruz Noguez, a Mexican national. He is also charged with Bringing in Aliens Without Presentation for Financial Gain.

CALEXICO, Calif. (KOLD News 13) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station seized a kettlebell package filled with $1,944 worth of cocaine Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:05 a.m., when a Remote Video Surveillance Operator notified agents of a kettlebell that was thrown over the international border wall from Mexico into the United States.

Agents say a Remote Video Surveillance Operator notified them that a kettlebell was thrown over to the international border wall from Mexico to the U.S. last Sunday.
Agents located the plastic-wrapped kettlebell and took it to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.
They found 195 small pills that tested positive for cocaine.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the pills weighed 21.6 grams that has a value of $1,944.
No one was arrested.

Cocaine pills seized near downtown Calexico


CALEXICO —El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station seized a kettlebell package filled with cocaine Sunday morning, December 13, according to a press release.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:05 a.m., when a Remote Video Surveillance Operator notified agents of a kettlebell that was thrown over the international border wall from Mexico into the United States. An agent responded to the location and located the plastic wrapped kettlebell near downtown Calexico. The agent seized and transported the package back to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing. There were no subjects identified in the incident.
At the station, agents discovered 195 small white pills inside the package that tested positive for the characteristics of cocaine.
