Legalization supporters assert the Legal Missouri 2022 campaign would, if successful, give current medical marijuana businesses the first shot at full recreational sales.
Rep. Nick Schroer, of St. Charles County, amended the so-called Cannabis Freedom Act to exclude transgender women from access to no-interest loans for women- and minority-owned cannabis businesses.
The constitutional amendment allows recreational marijuana in Missouri and will clear nonviolent marijuana-related charges from criminal records. However, the proposal faced fierce criticism from organizations as disparate as the NAACP and Pro-Choice Missouri.
Two other issues on the ballot passed, including a measure creating a separate Missouri Department of the National Guard and one that forces Kansas City to increase the funding for its police department. Two measures failed: One giving the treasury greater leeway in investing and the other prompting the state to hold a constitutional convention.
