Canton, ODOT to upgrade pedestrian crosswalks this summer

upgraded this summer in school zones and high-traffic areas.
Canton City Council on Monday unanimously authorized the work, which will be entirely funded by a $750,000 Ohio Department of Transportation grant.
The city s Engineering Department applied for the grant and has been working with ODOT to identify the improvement areas, according to Public Service Director John Highman. ODOT will manage the construction.
New countdown pedestrian signals and improved pavement markings will be added to 22 intersections along Tuscarawas Street W and 28 intersections in school zones. Another 17 intersections along major roadways will receive new pedestrian signals, according to Highman.
Primarily, you ll see them along Market and Cleveland Avenue, he told the council. ....
