A recent exercise at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne's first infantry brigade combat team found that the equipment fielded in Capability Set '21 works well, but training needs to improve.
The Army has nixed future "Capability Set" upgrade packages for brigade networks in favor of smaller, more frequent updates, with the most complex technology reserved for division and corps HQs.
"Do we need to a have a radio in every vehicle?" Col. Shermoan Daiyaan said. "Do we need to have one radio per team? Or is it one radio per squad?”
The preliminary work done at Project Convergence — the Army's contribution to the Pentagon's JADC2 vision — will inform how Capability Set 25 proceeds.
