Practice makes perfect: Barnstable volleyball wins league tournament

SOUTH YARMOUTH - Tom Turco knew his team had it long before Barnstable’s girls volleyball team stepped on the court. The Red Hawks held their last practice of the season Thursday night, swapping the typical three nets used simultaneously for just one that kept the entire team together for the entire practice.
It was, in Turco’s words, “the best practice of the year.”
“It was at that moment I knew they were going to win,” Turco said. “They were so together.”
That prediction proved correct 24 hours later, as Caroline Kiehnau’s 16 kills and 5 aces powered No. 2 Barnstable to a 25-20, 25-17, 26-24 win over the previously undefeated No. 1 Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins in the Cape & Islands League Atlantic Tournament girls volleyball championship on Friday night. ....
