Second Avenue train overpass bridge to open Aug. 4
Anyone who has been caught at a freight train crossing mid-Tuscaloosa knows routes around, to avoid sitting behind the wheel, beating time to clacking wheels, reading boxcar graffiti and counting just how many carriages one locomotive can pull.
And every frustrated driver, deciding to wait it out rather than bob-and-weave away from the parallel Kansas City Southern and Norfolk Southern railroad crossings, knows there aren t enough alternatives.
Early morning Aug. 4, road relief comes with the opening of a 10-year-in-the-making bridge from the University of Alabama campus, at the north end between Sewell-Thomas Stadium and the UA School of Law, and feeding on the south at 14th Street, a block off the major artery of 15th.
