The BCHL needs help – Captain Kurt to the rescue. In a move designed to increase the league’s exposure in larger, more crowded markets, the new BCHL Commissioner (and former Vancouver Canuck) John Grisdale has appointed his former coach, Orland Kurtenbach, to the position of director of community relations. Kurtenbach, selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1970 expansion draft, became the first captain of the fledgling hockey team. He retired from hockey four seasons later – returning to coach Vancouver for the 1977-78 season. So, almost 30 years after leaving the Canucks locker room...
