Poetry Foundation hires Michelle T. Boone to help it 'become an equitable organization'

The Poetry Foundation has chosen Michelle T. Boone as its new president, the first time a woman and a person of color will be leading the Chicago-based institution.
The wealthy foundation oversees the century-old Poetry magazine, organizes workshops and other programs, and distributes millions of dollars in awards and grants.
Boone, 59, has extensive experience in government and foundation work. Her previous jobs include commissioner of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and senior program officer at the Joyce Foundation. Most recently she was chief program and civic engagement officer at Navy Pier.
She is a board member for several Chicago cultural organizations. ....

The appointment concludes a robust, diverse national search led by Korn Ferry in partnership with a committee of Poetry Foundation trustees and staff members.
Boone brings more than 20 years of professional community, civic, and cultural experience in dynamic leadership positions, both at Navy Pier and with the Joyce Foundation, as well as during her tenure as commissioner for Chicago s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).
