“It’s a jewel,” said Gordon Collins, the vice president of Friends of Hope Cemetery & Woods.
The Friends of Hope Cemetery & Woods are expected to celebrate the official opening of the new, accessible trail with a snip of the ol’ ribbon by the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce on Friday, May 14.
The woods tucked behind Hope Cemetery on Barnard Lane in downtown Kennebunk  comprise 72 acres of forest and meadows and offer nature trails that are open to the public all year long. ....

March 10, 2021BETHEL, Maine Mahoosuc Land Trust (MLT) has hired conservation professional Spenser Williams to run its land stewardship programs in the Mahoosuc Region in Maine and New Hampshire. Williams s past roles as trail designer-builder, naturalist, and Geographic Information Systems specialist will be key as MLT s conserved land base and recreational use of its lands grow.
Within the past two years, MLT has acquired the 493-acre McCoy-Chapman Forest, and will soon close on the 853-acre Shelburne Riverlands. In addition, as part of the Campaign for the Androscoggin, an effort is underway to acquire the 973-acre Tumbledown Dick Mountain in Gilead, part of the Chadbourne Tree Farm. With conserved lands of over 10,000 acres, and the surging popularity of hiking and outdoor activities, we have been really challenged, says Larry Ely, chair of MLT s Stewardship Committee. ....
