New data shows rise in NC syphilis cases, especially in women and newborns

Cases of syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria, are rising in North Carolina. The state saw an overall 23 percent increase in cases from 2021 to 2022, with cases in women rising 133 percent from 2019 to 2022.
