The Anteaters (24-8 overall, 17-3 Big West) had already clinched the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, and their 81-71 win keeps the Titans out of the eight-team field. UCI plays in a semifinal next Friday at 6 p.m.
The Anteaters open a 13-point lead just four minutes into the game and roar to an 89-64 road win that moves them one game ahead of UC San Diego and guarantees them at least a top-two seed in the reformatted conference tournament.
Six-foot-11 center Benjamin Griscti goes 6 for 10 from 3-point range and scores a season-high 26 points as the Highlanders hand the Anteaters just their second loss in Big West play, 88-78.
The Anteaters shoot 61.4% from the field and 21 for 23 from the free-throw line and in a 93-68 win that gives them sole possession of first place in the Big West.
