Mayor Miro Weinberger and UVM President Suresh Garimella have struck a deal on student housing, subject to City Council approval, for 1,500 beds.
"I think this is really a significant step in the right direction for UVM," said one city councilor.
More than 200 more residential units could soon be built in South Burlington’s City Center under plans proposed by Snyder-Braverman, a Shelburne-based residential development company with a large presence in the city, who has proposed building three mixed-use buildings off Garden Street.
The project, called Catamount Run, is expected to be complete in the fall of 2025.
After the City Council tabled a rezoning proposal that would have allowed more development on the Trinity campus, the two sides are in a stalemate over student enrollment and housing.
