Gregory Wayne Maxwell, 50, faces five counts of attempted murder and a weapons charge for shooting and injuring Oconee deputy, Corporal Lucas Watts.
The sheriff's office said around 8 p.m. the deputy, who has not been identified, was out of surgery and the next several hours were critical, according to a Facebook post.
