The Class 10 Board exams have been cancelled by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and students will be promoted to the next class based on a special criterion. As the Board announced this decision, it also left students with some questions. CBSE class 10 students want to know how they will be promoted and what evaluation criteria will be laid down by the board to allot them marks.

The Board exams for classes 10 and 12 have been cancelled and postponed, respectively by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) amid the massive surge in the COVID-19 caseload in the country. The exams were scheduled to be held from May 4 till June 14. The decision regarding the cancellation and postponement of the CBSE exams 2021 came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' and other concerned officials.  As the Board announced this decision, it also left students with some questions. CBSE class 10 students want to know how they will be promoted and what evaluation criteria will be laid down by the board to allot them marks.

At a time when lakhs of students, parents and teachers across India are urging the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Central government to cancel or postpone the CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 due to ririsng COVID-19 cases, it was reported on Wednesday that the CBSE has started preparation to conduct CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 from May 4 in Ajmer region.

Amid the rising demand for cancelling the CBSE exams for classes 10 and 12 scheduled to commence in May amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold a meeting with Education Minister, Secretary and other important officials at 12 noon on April 14 (Wednesday) to discuss the issue of CBSE Board Exams, news agency ANI quoted government sources as saying.

Due to a spike in covid cases across the country, many states in India have decided to postpone the Class X and Class XII board exams following requests from students, parents, and teachers. The Board exams for CBSE classes 10 and 12 which were scheduled to begin in May have been postponed. Delhi, Maharastra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh have already postponed the State board exams.
The Delhi government has postponed exams for Classes IX and XI and exams are now are scheduled to be held in offline mode. The Maharastra government has announced the postponement of exams and said Class XII exams will be held by end of May, while the 10th standard exams will be in June. Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad also postponed the Board exams, which were scheduled to start from April 24. Following suit, even Chhattisgarh and Punjab cancelled exams and said they will announce the dates soon.

The Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting on April 14 (Wednesday) to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretaries and other top officials attended the meeting.    
The Prime Minister reiterated that the well-being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government. He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.

As lakhs of students of CBSE Class 10, 12 across the country are demanding that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancel the CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 due to rising coronavirus cases, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Monday (April 12) said that the state government will write to the CBSE, CISCE and other boards to reconsider Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 dates.
