Central’s Lewis breaks conference triple jump record PELLA — A record-breaking effort in the triple jump by junior Brock Lewis (Lathrop, Mo.) highlighted the Central College men’s track and field’s triangular meet against Loras College and Buena Vista University Saturday. The Dutch finished runner-up with 104.5 points. Loras College won the title with 119.5 and Buena Vista was third with 53. Running into a buzzsaw that is the #5 ranked Sabers of Central DeWitt was the challenge for the Washington girls’ basketball team on Saturday and the Demon season came to an end with a 75-31 loss in a class 4A regional semifinal. The Indians were last at state in 2018 when Shayne Hoeft finished 16th; the highest a girl has ever finished at state for Forest City – until today. Forest City junior Chiara Thompson rolled a career-high 429 series en route to a fourth-place state finish; her previous recorded career-high came earlier this season when she rolled a 405 series. Mid-Prairie junior wrestler Cael Garvey reached a major career milestone in the Golden Hawks regular season dual finale at Clear Creek Amana. With his pin of Mitchell Howard of Central DeWitt in just 44 seconds, Garvey captured the 100th win of his high school career.
