Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awards grant funds

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded grant funds to support health services organizations, local libraries and emergency service providers. 
The foundation granted $8,500 to support health services organizations. Receiving grants were United Community & Family Services, $5,000; Connecticut Cancer Foundation of Old Saybrook, $1,000; Day Kimball Hospital of Putnam, $1,000; and Griswold PRIDE, $500. 
Local libraries received $5,000 total. A grant of $2,000 was awarded to Slater Library of Jewett City to purchase and install three study/computer carrels in the children’s library and another $1,000 as part of an annual appeal; Aldrich Free Public Library of Moosup received $1,000 to repair and restore the windows of the historic building built in 1895; and Preston Public Library received $1,000 for the redesign and implementation of a new website.  ....

Police respond to bomb threat in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, Conn. Officers responded to an address on Pickett Road in Central Village after receiving a bomb threat. 
Police say they received an unknown number directed at the address and responded to the scene with the help of the Central Village Fire Department and Connecticut State Police. 
The property threatened and the surrounding area were evacuated. Police searched the address using explosives detection K9 and found no threat. 
The incident remains under investigation by Plainfield Police.
