Trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt put the pedal to the metal with Armycaptin Hanover in Tuesday’s $8,100 Open Pace at Century Downs, and the gelding never looked back en route to a second consecutive victory in the track’s top class. Leaving from Post 1, Armycaptin Hanover rocketed out and carved out relatively easy, first-half fractions of :28.2 and :58. Icy Blue Scooter came after the leader on the way to the mid-way point, and they battled through a savage third quarter clocked in :26.4. Brandon Campbell sent three winners on the 10-race card at Century Downs on Sunday (July 4). The afternoon opened with Campbell piloting his pupil Annasfeatherfoot ($7.60) to a wire-to-wire win from post 1 in the opening race. Campbell later returned to the winner’s circle a few races later following a romp by Lost And Lonely ($10.60). He completed the hat trick when steering Northfield Nellie ($4.50) to a gate-to-wire victory in the eighth race. Off a victory in the Bev Sears Memorial, Miss Itunes powered first over as the 9-5 favourite to down her competition in the $8,100 featured pace at Century Downs on Sunday (June 6). Mrs Suhwiggins sprinted off the wings from post 7 to take the lead to a :27.4 opening quarter with Tajmealover settling into second and Miss Itunes into third. Sobey and Thiessen suffered injuries during the 2021 season opener at Century Downs on Tuesday (May 18). Thiessen, driving Crush Me, who fell from the pocket after failing to avoid the breaking pacesetter, Lost Control, was impacted from behind by a trailing horse and suffered a fractured and dislocated femur and shattered collarbone.
