Matriarch Olivia Yanson, corporate secretary and treasurer, said in a statement on Tuesday placing the key cities under Alert Levels 3 and 2 eases people's mobility both for work and leisure. "Mobility directly translates into a bigger demand for public transport. This is a big relief to the transport industry," she added. On Monday, Yanson also underscored this in her message during the annual stockholders' meeting of Goldstar Bus Transit Inc., one of the companies under the YGBC, which is plying major routes in Luzon. Mainly serving the Visayas and Mindanao commuters are Vallacar Transit Inc., Ceres Liner Travel and Tours Inc., Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc., Bachelor Express Inc., and Southern Star Bus Transport Inc. Leo Rey Yanson, president and chief executive officer, reiterated the company's commitment to providing the Filipino commuters with the most reliable means of public transportation amid the continuing challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. The elder Yanson had earlier said the YGBC, which has 18,000 employees, is not resorting to retrenchment despite the financial difficulties brought by the health crisis. Matriarch Olivia Yanson, corporate secretary and treasurer, said in a statement on Friday all their 18,000 employees have been "suffering financially" due to the pandemic. "Our operations had been greatly affected. Despite the global crisis, my youngest son, Leo Rey, the president and chief executive officer of our company, makes sure that no employee will be retrenched," she added. The elder Yanson, who is turning 88 this coming Sunday, said in the past two years, their employees have "lived within the means of our daily operations". The Yanson Group, whose units ply across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, owns Vallacar Transit Inc., Ceres Liner Travel and Tours Inc., Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc., Bachelor Express Inc. and Southern Star Bus Transport Inc. The younger Yanson, who sits as chairman of the board and president of the five bus firms, said they remain committed to providing the riding public with the most reliable means of public transportation. "We continue to be steadfast in our goal to serve the Filipino people," he said, adding that the Yanson Group is looking forward to pushing the boundaries in providing quality transportation to every Filipino traveler amid the pandemic. Meanwhile, Olivia said flagship company Vallacar Transit Inc. remains apolitical in the local elections and has not endorsed anyone running in Negros Occidental. In a statement, she dismissed reports that she is supporting a particular local candidate, saying she has been "maliciously dragged" into the issue. She added her late husband Ricardo had been "resolute in his stand that the company would never be involved in any political party" and would just want to "establish a harmonious relationship with any political aspirant for the best interests of the city and province". The Yanson family though is known to be a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, who was the guest of honor during Olivia's 86th birthday celebration here two years ago. In 2019, the Yansons hit the headlines after Olivia's six children figured in the still ongoing intra-corporate battle involving the family-owned bus company. LEO Rey Yanson, Olivia V. Yanson, Ginnette Yanson-Dumancas are now in full control of the Bacolod City-based Yanson Group of Bus Companies which is considered to have the largest transport fleet in the country.
The group set sights on navigating the bus business amid the challenges of the pandemic after Leo Rey was re-elected chairman and president of YGBC's key subsidiaries in a series of stockholders' meetings from December 5, 2020, to January 18, 2021. Olivia was reelected as corporate secretary and treasurer of the same transport companies.
“Despite the challenges faced in 2020, the business remains strong and resilient. It continues to be steadfast in its goal to serve the Filipino people,” said Leo Rey.

THE four siblings of the Yanson family known as the Y4 said they retained their posts after the shareholders meeting of another transport company owned by the family.
In a press statement, lawyer Carlo Joaquin Narvasa confirmed that Bachelor Express Inc. held its annual shareholders on January 12, 2021 at Seda Centrio Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City and that he was proxy for Ma. Lourdes Celina Yanson Lopez, its president and chairman of the Board of Directors.
It was attended by stockholders representing 99.99 percent of the outstanding capital stock of the corporation, Narvasa said.
Roy V. Yanson, Emily V. Yanson, Ma. Lourdes Celina Lopez, Ricardo V. Yanson Jr., Jerina Louise Ramos and Matthew Agustin Y. Lopez were elected by the shareholders as new members of the Board of Directors for the Year of the Corporation for 2021-2022.
