People around the world know of Pastor Dr. Charles F. Stanley because of his television ministry. But few know he was born and raised in Pittsylvania County and Danville. His ties are strong at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Danville, where he accepted Jesus into his life at age 12 on June 9, 1944.
The late pastor headed the First Baptist Church of Atlanta for 51 years and founded his organization In Touch Ministries.
He helped lead a conservative takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention, and he mastered the use of media to spread his message.
