In the fourth episode of the season, following the time jump, we learn that Betty is an FBI trainee and she was recently on a case trying to capture a serial killer known as the Trash Bag Killer. TBK is known for killing his victims with a chainsaw and then dismembering them, placing their remains in trash bags. He also seems to wear a trash bag-like mask over his head to shield his identity.

It seems Archie was injured at war, though his buddy Corporal Jackson took the brunt of it. As for Archie, they're sending him back home to Riverdale to relaunch the ROTC program at Riverdale High. After apologizing to Jackson, who lost a leg in the mystery accident, Archie hits the road. But what he finds doesn't look like the Riverdale he left behind.
