Nexamp nearly finished with local solar farm Nexamp close to completing its project Charles Bolinger, charles.bolinger@edwpub.net FacebookTwitterEmail MADISON COUNTY If you joined Nexamp’s Edwardsville Solar Project, you might see a lower electric bill early next year. “We are expecting to have the project mechanically complete by the end of December,” said Keith Hevenor, Nexamp communications manager in Massachusetts. “Once we achieve that milestone, we can then schedule the necessary testing and connection work with Ameren Illinois, so that we can start generating energy and applying credit to our subscribers’ monthly electric bills,” he said. “If all goes well and the weather cooperates, we could be up and running in January or February.” ....

April election taking shape as candidates emerge New, previouscandidates emerge FacebookTwitterEmail Candidate lists for the consolidated election were unveiled in Edwardsville and Maryville Tuesday. Mayor Hal Patton announced during the spring that he is not running for a third, four-year term as mayor. Two people filed for that seat, Stephanie Malench of Bring Your Own Glen-Ed, and Ward 7 Alderman Art Risavy. If Risavy is elected mayor, a special election will be held to fill his city council seat. Seats in wards 2, 4 and 6 are up for grabs. In Ward 2, incumbent Jack Burns is running against newcomer Yolanda Crochrell. Aldermanic terms are for four years. The odd-numbered ward seats will be up for re-election in April 2023. ....
Global Brew adds Sugarfire to its mix Charles Bolinger, charles.bolinger@edwpub.net FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE Cross-promotions and events involving beer and barbecue in Edwardsville just got easier. Ryan High and his wife, Laura, bought the local Sugarfire franchise in the Ironworks development. They closed the deal on Nov. 1. The Highs own the adjacent Global Brew; an outdoor patio separates the two. Sugarfire has 4,500-square-feet and employs 20 people. “We want to hone in on the local ownership aspect,” High said. Customers should expect to see Sugarfire 618 taglines, for example. “When the opportunity came up, we knew we couldn’t let it pass due to the proximity.” ....

The company, based in Springfield, plans to open in the Ironworks Plaza on Jan. 4, next to Global Brew. Stephanie Johnson, an Edwardsville native, opened this concept in January of 2011 (after several years of putting together the logistics) in a 400-square-foot facility located in Taylorville.
