FLINT, MI Over the course of more than two decades, Michael Thompson survived life in prison.
However, in the days that became weeks, months, and years spent behind prison walls, he grappled with the obstacles that came with having no freedom.
It’s now been a week since Thompson was released from prison.
The sun shined through the windows and glass doors Thursday, Feb. 4 at his temporary home in Genesee County a stark contrast to the pitch black skies that greeted the 69-year-old a week earlier as he walked out of the Charles Egeler Reception And Guidance Center in Jackson and into a new world. ....

FLINT, MI Less than a week after Michael Thompson was released from prison - where he served 25 years for a marijuana case - he will now have the opportunity to purchase his own home.
Strangers, advocates for individuals, families disproportionately affected by the war on cannabis and others have raised more than $266,000 as of Wednesday, Feb. 3. for Thompson to buy his new dream home.
Thompson, 69, was released Jan. 28 from Charles Egeler Reception And Guidance Center in Jackson after serving a quarter-century in prison. ....

JACKSON, MI Michael Thompson walked out of the Charles Egeler Reception And Guidance Center at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28 a free man.
After serving 25 years behind bars, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer granted Thompson’s request for clemency in December.
Two daughters and a granddaughter were there to greet him as he left the prison.
Thompson, 69, was serving a 42- to 62-year sentence after he was convicted of selling three pounds of marijuana to an undercover informant in December 1994.

FLINT, MI When Rashawnda Littles’ father is released from prison, it’ll be the second time she’s seen him from behind bars since she was 19 years old.
Littles, 48, was heading into the second decade of her life when her father, Michael Thompson, was sent to prison to serve a 42- to 62-year sentence after he was convicted of selling three pounds of marijuana to an undercover informant in December 1994.

FLINT, MI After serving 25 years behind bars, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has granted Michael Thompson’s request for clemency.
Thompson, 69, is serving a 42- to 62-year sentence after he was convicted of selling three pounds of marijuana to an undercover informant in December 1994.
On Tuesday, Dec. 22, Whitmer granted Thompson’s and three others requests for clemency after reviewing the applications and recommendations by the Michigan Parole Board. ....
