Five crew members of a stone-laden bulkhead sinking in the outer anchorage of Chattogram port have been rescued by the Bangladesh Coast Guard, officials said.
Lt Commander Amirul Haque, media officer at the BCG headquarters, said on Friday that around 6am, MV Pinky, a bulkhead carrying stones, collided with a merchant ship at outer anchorage of Chattogram port.
When MV Pinky asked MV Nafiza Jahan for help, the latter informed Port Control, and the Coast Guard was immediately alerted, he added.
Upon receiving information around 7.30 am, a rescue team from the Patenga outpost of BCG rushed to the spot and rescued the five crew members. The vessel had completely drowned 1 nautical mile south of Gohira by then. ....

UAE national found dead at hotel in Bangladesh

A United Arab Emirates national has been found dead at a hotel in Chhatogram.

Saif Ammar Muhammed Hashel Alneyadi, 39, checked in to Asian SR hotel at the port city on Monday and his lifeless body was recovered on Wednesday.
He came on a visit to Bangladesh with a Bangladeshi expatriate worker named Salauddin.
Citing Salauddin, the police said Alneyadi moved in a wheelchair for one and a half years due to illness.
Salahuddin’s father had worked for Alneyadi in the UAE. Later, Salahuddin replaced his father.
The UAE national and Salauddin were staying in the same room while two of Salauddin’s relatives shared a separate room. ....

A Chattogram court has ordered the authorities to send madrasa teacher Md Yahiya to jail for beating up a student in Hathazari.

Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Jihan Sanjida passed the order on Thursday, said Humayun Kabir, a police inspector.
The police produced Yahiya before the court, but no petition was filed requesting his remand or bail.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a woman visited her son at Al Markazul Quran Islamic Academy. The child followed the mother on her way out and Yahiya, the teacher, then took him inside the madrasa by the scruff of his neck and began striking him with a cane. ....

A madrasa teacher has badly beaten up an eight-year-old student for tailing his mother who was visiting him in Chattogram.

The teacher was detained following the incident in Hathazari but was later released at the parents request.
The incident occurred at Al Markazul Quran Islamic Academy on Tuesday evening.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ruhul Amin led an operation to rescue the child after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
“The mother went to see her child at the madrasa on Tuesday afternoon. The eight-year-old followed her mother on her way out around 5:30 pm,” Amin told bdnews24.com. ....

The police have arrested a madrasa teacher who badly beat up an 8-year-old student for tailing his mother after she paid a visit on the boy at the institution in Chattogram.

Md Yahiya, the teacher of Al Markazul Quran Islamic Academy, was arrested at his home in Rangunia on Wednesday afternoon.
Shahadat Hossain, an additional superintendent of police in Chattogram, said the family of the boy were initiating a case against Yahiya.
The teacher had earlier been detained but was later released at the parents request.
