CHICAGO (WLS) Loretto Hospital has admitted to mistakenly vaccinating 72 employees at Trump Tower downtown.
The hospital said the doses administered last week came from its regular vaccine allotment, not from the Protect Chicago Plus program for hard-hit communities.
In a memo sent to staff, Loretto s President and CEO George Miller said he authorized the vaccinations at the request of West Side residents who couldn t leave their jobs at the hotel to get their shots.
Miller wrote that the hospital was, at the time, under the impression that restaurant and other frontline hospitality industry workers were considered essential under the city s 1B requirements.

CHICAGO (WLS) Vaccinations at nursing homes began Monday in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
Walgreens employees began the process of vaccinating residents and staff at long term care facilities at the Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Chicago s Englewood neighborhood. Hospice chaplain Victor Parrot was first in line. I m hoping I m the first of many who come get the vaccine, we can get a handle on the pandemic and protect the community, Parrot said. It s about the community, not just the individual.
CHICAGO (WLS) The first doses of the Moderna vaccine are now in the arms of frontline health care workers in Chicago.
Just as the city rolled out the Pfizer vaccine at Loretto Hospital on Chicago s West Side earlier this month, the first doses of the Moderna vaccine were given on the city s Southwest Side Monday. It is great to be here to witness yet another milestone in our city s history and COVID-19 vaccination journey, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said.
The first five doses of the Moderna vaccine were administered to medical staff and others at Esperanza Health, which serves the Latinx community. It s the first community health center in the city to get the vaccine.
