Man sentenced to federal prison in case forwarded to AG from Payette Police

A Boise man who was connected to cases of defrauding Medicare and Idaho Medicaid was sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison Monday.
The allegations about Scott Alexander Laney, 38, were initially forwarded to the Idaho Attorney General’s Office from the Payette City Police Department in 2016, confirmed Chief John Plaza in a phone interview this morning. That was a while before his time and even before the detective who handled the case.
“The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they grind finely,” Plaza said.
According to the report on file, a local doctor’s office, Healthcare With Heart, had suspected fraud there and contacted the Payette Police Department. The detective at the time, then investigated the case and decided it needed to go to the Attorney General, according to Plaza. ....

Man accused of kidnapping Burnt River Farms employee was hiding in backseat area

More details have emerged and a man in his mid-30s is in jail, in the case of a kidnapping of an employee of a recreational marijuana dispensary in Ontario on Saturday morning.
Jorge Garred, who was born in 1984, faces multiple charges in Idaho and Oregon for the incident, including felony kidnapping charges in both states. Additionally, he was unknown to the victim.
According to Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe, the man did first make contact with the victim in the parking lot at the Burnt River Farms dispensary as first reported by the newspaper. However, it was from the back seat of her car, where he had ridden unbeknownst to her since she had left her house in Payette. ....
