Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has instructed the Uttar Pradesh government to consider a night curfew situation as the state witnesses a surge in number of coronavirus cases. The court asked the government to consider vaccination and night curfew of all people.
Also, in the nomination and campaigning in the Panchayat elections, it has asked tthe government to ensure coronavirus guidelines are followed. The bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Siddharth Verma has given this instruction.
The court has ordered the police and district administration to make sure people wear masks as it is compulsory.

On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court issued a slew of directions to the Uttar Pradesh government as the state is witnessing a surge in the number of coronavirus cases. The court has instructed the Yogi government to consider a night curfew situation to combat the second wave of COVID-19 and has also asked the government to check the viability of vaccination for one and all.

Consider vaccination for all, HC tells U.P. govt.

‘Examine viability of night curfew’
The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to check the viability of vaccination for all citizens in the State and not just those above the age of 45 years. The court also asked the State to examine the viability of having night curfew to check late evening and social gatherings.
The court passed the directions while expressing concern that though the State government had taken necessary steps to meet the threat of the second wave of COVID-19, the government’s directions had not been complied with by the public.
A Bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Siddhartha Varma directed the State to also check the viability of inoculating such students who are to appear in the High School and Intermediate Examinations. “A door-to-door vaccination programme should be chalked out,” the court stated. The court also directed the DMs to ensure “strict and definite compliance” of the directions issued by the State government to meet the threat of COVID-19. The Bench asked the administration and the police to ensure that there was 100% wearing of masks in every district and to see that no crowding took place in any place. “

Though she expected things to be below par, Anjali Pandey says she was “shocked” to discover the glaring lack of sanitation facilities for women personnel in police stations in her city Prayagraj. Ms. Pandey was among the 13 women law students who petitioned the Allahabad High Court on the basis of a survey in which they found that most of the police stations — they surveyed 17 police stations and the BAR Council premises — in Prayagraj lacked basis sanitation amenities, washrooms or separate toilets for women personnel. “They [female personnel] work for everyone and are a part of the government. If they don’t get basic facilities, what can we expect for us?” asked Ms. Pandey, a third semester law student.

HC asks Centre, state not to set up GST tribunal in UP without its nod

The Allahabad High Court Thursday asked the central and state governments not to establish the GST Appellate Tribunal in Uttar Pradesh without its permission.
A bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice R R Awasthi gave the direction here in Lucknow on a public interest lawsuit by Awadh Bar Association and posted the matter for the next hearing on March 15.
The lawyers of the Allahabad High Court and its Lucknow bench are at daggers drawn on the issue of establishment of the main seat of tribunals including the GST tribunal, education tribunal and the company law tribunal.
Lucknow lawyers plead the tribunals should be in the state capital while the Allahabad lawyers want them there.
