Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 18 (ANI): Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government for the management of COVID-19 situation in the state, Allahabad High Court on Tuesday said the entire medical system in villages and small towns in Uttar Pradesh is "Ram bharose" (at God's mercy).
A High Court Bench comprising Justice Siddharth Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar made the observation while taking into account the death of Santosh Kumar (64), who died while admitted to an isolation ward at a Meerut hospital.

EC, govt failed to fathom disastrous consequences of permitting elections: Allahabad HC
In a scathing comment on the Election Commission and the government, the Allahabad High Court has said that they "failed to fathom the disastrous consequences" of permitting elections in a few states and the panchayat election in Uttar Pradesh.
A single-judge bench of Justice Siddharth Verma made these observations on Monday while granting protection from arrest 'on special grounds', till January 2022, to a builder based in Ghaziabad.
A case had been filed against the builder by Uttar Pradesh Police over an alleged property possession default.
The order also listed out what the special grounds were, saying "the apprehension of death on account of reasons like the present pandemic of novel coronavirus can certainly be held to be a ground for grant of anticipatory bail to an accused".

UP Panchayat polls: Compensation less for polling officers who died due to COVID, says HC
The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday observed that the amount of compensation for polling officers, who died due to COVID-19 during Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, is very less and the compensation must at least be to the tune of Rs one crore. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Siddharth Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar made this observation while hearing a Public Interest Litigation on the spread of the pandemic in the state and conditions of quarantine centres.
"To compensate the loss of life of the family's bread earner and that too because of a deliberate act on part of the State and the State Election Commission to force them to perform duties in absence of RT-PCR support, the compensation must be at least to the tune of Rs one crore. We hope that the State Election Commission and the government will rethink the amount of compensation and come back to us on the next date fixed," it observed.
