IT has been more than one year since Cumbria Police took on new recruits as part of a national operation, and the new officers have risen to the challenges thrown at them. Cumbria was the first county in the UK to take on new recruits as part of the Government's Operation Uplift scheme. The first nine new officers began their training in August 2019 and by January they were out in the communities across the county. One of the recruits, Chloe Carruthers, has taken on many significant pieces of work including a cross county fraud case, a home burglary, and a domestic violence case.
